Riding package and Short Breaks – Information and Prices 2019
February to November –
(We do not offer holidays during December and January.)
This small and exclusive equestrian centre is situated 50 minutes from Bordeaux airport, and 1 hour from Bergerac airport.
Jackie and Johnny Harris have been training horses and riders for over 35 years. The focus is always on sensitive and correct riding technique, with the aim of developing trust between horse and rider, with good communication and clear instructions.
Our experienced horses are light in the mouth and fabulously schooled, and they will introduce their riders to the importance of solid basics and higher level flatwork – the key to successful jumping.
As jumping is our speciality, our horses have all competed at a high level in Show Jumping. Established riders can work on their own technique and course riding skills, and less experienced riders will gain huge confidence learning to jump with our schoolmasters.
The intensive 7 day/6 night package consists of 10 sessions of riding with half-board accommodation – bed, breakfast and evening meal. Guests stay in the studio accommodation at Guillot, next to the stables. Arriving on Sunday, access to the studio is after 2.30 pm. Riding starts on Monday, with lessons taking place in the morning and the afternoon. Lessons are individual or shared with one other rider of similar ability. Extra lessons can be booked if required. The last lesson is on Friday afternoon, and leaving is on Saturday before lunch. If preferred, the riding can be condensed to 5 sessions of 1hr 30 minutes. This is an ideal option for a guest with a non-riding partner as this allows plenty of time each day for exploring this wonderful region – especially those long, lazy French lunches!
The Luxury package consists of 6 nights full board accommodation in the gorgeous La Vieille Ferme. A huge renovated Farmhouse, with an heated salt swimming pool, it is situated on the riverbank just outside Coutras town, about 5 minutes drive from the stables. Riding is a choice of 8 or 10 lessons taken in pairs of same level riders. Access is from 14.00pm on Sunday, and riding begins on Monday morning. The last lesson is on Friday afternoon, and leaving is on Saturday morning by 11.00am.
All levels of rider are welcome – from beginner to advanced. We are unable to cater for children under 12 years.
For our group visitors, Johnny gives demonstrations – showing various training techniques and ridden exercises. This is especially useful for equestrian students and young trainers who are intent on a career in the equine industry.
Riders who are aiming at BHS Stages from 2 upwards will need to demonstrate their ability to ride unknown horses both on the flat and over a course of jumps. We can help you to get the best result on the day with sound preparation and practise.
We can take a limited number of trainees working towards higher level qualifications. We also offer short term intensive preparation for UK exams – in horse care, riding and instructing.
